Karadeniz Technical University applied to the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council on April 28, 2021 to be included in the 2021 Institutional Accreditation Program. In this process, the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) Evaluation Team paid a preliminary visit to KTU on December 16, 2021. They completed field and face-to-face visits on 5-7 January 2022. After all the visits and examination of documents and reports, the THEQC decided at its meeting on May 25, 2022 that Karadeniz Technical University receive "Full Accreditation " for 5 year-period.

Certificate Presentation Ceremony for Institutional Accreditation, which KTU was entitled to receive, was attended by Trabzon Governor İsmail USTAOĞLU, President of Turkish Higher Education Quality Council Prof. Dr. Muhsin KAR, President of the Audit Board of COHE Prof. Dr. Ali Cengiz KÖSEOĞLU, Members of Higher Education Quality Council Prof. Dr. Ömer TORLAK and Prof. Dr. Feyza ARICIOĞLU, KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI and Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Akif CINEL, Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim OKUMUŞ, and Prof. Dr. Cemil RAKICI, Advisor to the Rector for Strategy and Quality Assurance Ali Haydar DOĞU, Artvin Coruh University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sıtkı BİLGİN, Trabzon University Rector Prof. Dr. Emin AŞIKKUTLU, Vice-Rector of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Prof. Dr. Ahmet İshak DEMİR, our academic and administrative staff, many guests, and members of the press.

After a moment of silence and the National Anthem, the ceremony continued with Horon dance performance and presentation of the KTU promotional film. After the presentation, KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI reported the process of accreditation and conveyed his thanks to all the staff who took part in this process with the following words: To establish a quality assurance system in higher education is one of the goals in our country's Development Plan. In this context, with the Regulation on the Quality Assurance System in Higher Education issued in 2015, quality commissions were established at all universities, and studies were initiated in this respect. Our university was among the first universities to voluntarily enter the Institutional External Evaluation process in 2016. Our University was included in the Monitoring Program by THEQC in 2020. It has applied to the Higher Education Quality Council to be included in the 2021 Institutional Accreditation Program with its strategic planning, current accreditation culture, and experience. In this respect, the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council Evaluation Team initiated an Institutional Accreditation Program in December 2021 and completed it in January 2022. As a result, our University has been awarded a five-year "Full Accreditation" and received the Institutional Accreditation Certificate. I would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff and students, especially our University's Quality Commission, who contributed a lot to this success. I would like to express my gratitude to all our public institutions, organizations, and private sector representatives who did not leave us alone during this process. This success is achieved with the efforts of all our internal and external stakeholders.”

Drawing attention to the KTU’s contribution to Trabzon, Governor İsmail USTAOĞLU said: “Today, we are gathered here for a very important and meaningful ceremony for our University. Trabzon has always been a very important city with its deep-rooted history and brand value. We are proud of the point that Karadeniz Technical University, which has an important place among these values, has reached as one of the oldest and most well-established universities in our country. KTU has provided very good services to this country for 67 years, has educated very important personalities, and has contributed to the progress and development of our country. The Institutional Accreditation Certificate, which will be given today, confirms KTU’s contribution and efforts.”

Emphasizing the stages of the quality process and the importance of the criteria applied in the evaluation process, THEQC President Prof. Dr. Muhsin KAR stated that: "KTU is a leading university in terms of quality studies. It carried out these studies voluntarily, applied to the call, and grew in maturity. As a result of their hard work in the process, Karadeniz Technical University will be awarded the Institutional Accreditation Certificate. On this occasion, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI and his colleagues.” Following the speech, he presented the "Institutional Accreditation Certificate" to KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI. Prof. Dr. ÇUVALCI said he took the Certificate on behalf of all academic and administrative staff and all the stakeholders.

After the photo shoot, the program ended with the sapling planting event prepared for the meaning and importance of the day in the "Quality Memorial Forest" located in the garden of Prof. Dr. Osman Turan Congress and Culture Center.
