First in nuclear physics studies with machine learning from our academician

Within the scope of the TUBITAK project developed by Prof. Dr. Tuncay BAYRAM, a faculty member at the Department of Physics at Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), and his colleagues, Prof. Dr. Serkan AKKOYUN, a faculty member at the Faculty of Science at Sivas Cumhuriyet University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cafer Mert YESILKANAT, a faculty member at the Faculty of Education at Artvin Coruh University, a module was developed using machine learning to enable users to calculate nuclear reaction cross-sections online. The study was published on the https://cunsg.cumhuriyet.edu.tr website as the first module in the literature on the relevant subject.

The study group members, Prof. Dr. Tuncay BAYRAM and Prof. Dr. Serkan AKKOYUN, have conducted numerous studies on machine learning in nuclear structure physics since 2013. Artificial neural networks were used to develop nuclear charge radii, potential energy curves, alpha decay half-lives in super-heavy nuclei, fission barriers, and nuclear interaction parameters and to determine reaction cross-sections in these studies. Researchers’ publications on using effective machine learning methodologies in areas where there are no experimental data in nuclear physics have attracted great interest worldwide in the relevant field.
