Our University continues to attract attention with the studies it has realized within the scope of the 68th Anniversary. At the 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) gave two awards to our University as the YÖK Outstanding Achievement Awards.

The Council of Higher Education held the 2023-2024 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony at Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center with the presence of President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI, accompanied by Trabzon Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. İlhan DENİZ, Maçka Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Volkan NUMAN BULUT, Chair of International Relations Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür TÜFEKÇİ, Assoc. Dr. Mustafa SARIOĞLU, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hülya KINIK, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet SOYTÜRK, Asst. Prof. Dr. Cevdet DEMİRTAŞ, Faculty of Medicine Student Representative Ali ARSLAN, and Abdülsamet ESKİYAYLA, one of the students of our University, attended the ceremony.

'Universities are Universal Institutions with their own Traditions'

In his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the 2023-2024 Academic Year, President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN pointed out that universities are part of life and said, "Universities are universal institutions with their own traditions that contribute to the intellectual development of students and enable them to discover their talents, as well as being a home of science. Universities change both the fortune and history of a country with the generations they raise. It is a shallow perspective to see universities only as a place to learn science or a profession. The main function of universities is to lead the transfer and development of culture, to develop ideas of its time, and to contribute to society in every field. Therefore, the university is an institution that is not outside of society and life, but rather at the very center of it."

We will Contribute to the Century of Turkiye

In his speech, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Prof. Dr. Erol ÖZVAR said, "In the Turkish Century, as the Council of Higher Education and its institutions, we will carry our international cooperation further by conducting scientific research and training qualified academic staff. We are determined to contribute to the development of our country in every field."

President Presented the Awards

After the speeches, the 2023 Council of Higher Education Outstanding Achievement Awards were presented to their owners. Academicians received their awards from the President, Mr. ERDOĞAN. In the Individual Awards, the Council of Higher Education awarded the doctoral student and their advisor together in order to draw attention to the relationship between the teacher and the student. Within the scope of the Individual Awards, in the Social Sciences and Humanities category, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hülya KINIK and her thesis advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür TÜFEKÇİ were deemed worthy of 'YÖK's 2023 Outstanding Achievement Awards' with the thesis titled "Integration of Rising Powers into the International System: The Case of Turkey".

Expressing his feelings and thoughts after the ceremony, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah ÇUVALCI congratulated our academicians who received awards from President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN and said, "As Karadeniz Technical University, I was very pleased that our academicians received awards at the beginning of the 2023-2024 Academic Year. I congratulate them and wish them continued success. We have a very well-equipped and qualified academic staff. We work hard to contribute to our city, region, and country. As exemplified by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, "Knowledge and virtue are superior to sword and gun. Without deviating from this understanding, as a University, we will continue to raise the level of success in Higher Education and do useful work for our country and nation. With these feelings and thoughts, I would like to thank once again our President, whose support we feel for the development and transformation of Higher Education."
